Bridging Blocks | Equity in Public Education

The Pennsylvania Clearinghouse for Education Research (PACER) states that Pennsylvania’s public school system is among the most inequitable in the country. Some of these disparities can be seen in school funding, educational opportunities, and student achievement. A significant part of the funding disparity is attributed to Pennsylvania’s reliance on local property taxes, which can contribute to differences in resources and opportunities between school districts. The inequities are magnified when you consider factors like language barriers, accessibility for students with disabilities, socioeconomic background, and race.

How can we have meaningful conversations about these disparities and work toward creating more inclusive and equitable schools? What role can families, educators, community members, and local leaders play in addressing these challenges? What changes would you like to see in your public education system?
