Bridging Blocks | Environmental Injustice: Who Bears the Burden?

Environmental Justice is the principle that everyone, regardless of race, color, culture, national origin, income, and educational levels, deserves equal protection from environmental hazards and a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their communities, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. 

Communities across the United States including Chester, Pennsylvania; Flint, Michigan; and Louisiana’s Cancer Alley, have faced pollution and environmental challenges that have significant public health consequences for their residents. Socioeconomic factors such as race, income, and geographic location are closely intertwined with these issues.

What are the next steps in addressing environmental challenges? What responsibilities do governments, institutions and individuals have in protecting the environment and public health? How can communities participate meaningfully in policy and decision-making? What could help create healthier, more resilient communities for future generations?

This is a facilitated community conversation in which attendees will engage directly with one another in a moderated setting. Rather than a lecture or presentation, the program is designed to encourage dialogue, the exchange of perspectives, and shared learning among participants.

This event will be live-streamed for attendees who wish to join virtually. A viewing link will be sent to all registered participants on the day of the event.
