Bridging Blocks | Do you Trust the News?
The way we consume news has drastically changed in just a few decades. What was once defined as the morning paper and the 11 o’clock news has given way to a 24-hour deluge in a nonstop news cycle, with information arriving instantly from a seemingly infinite number of media outlets, platforms and algorithms. Separating accurate and reliable reporting from noise and misinformation can be a daunting task.
Join us for a community conversation about the modern media environment: on what’s good and what’s not so good about the news. Is it a tool or a weapon? How are the news media shaping public understanding and civic life? How do algorithms and social platforms influence what we see and believe? Has constant exposure to breaking news desensitized us?
