Bridging Blocks | Housing Affordability: What are the Challenges in Bucks County?

Bucks County may be seen as relatively affluent, but many residents face real housing challenges. While about 6% of the population lives below the poverty line, home values remain high, with a median property value in 2023 of $421,700 — nearly 1.5 times larger than the national average. More than 13% of the county residents experienced severe housing problems last year, which can include high housing costs.

These pressures can be acute for older adults. In the United States, the number of senior households spending more than half of their income on housing has more than doubled — from 5.2 million to nearly 11.7 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. Rising or unexpected living costs may push older adults toward housing insecurity.

What is the experience of older residents in the county, and what can be improved? Join us in a discussion about what policies and community responses could help ensure the county's oldest residents can live comfortably and safely.
