Tavern Revolution 250: Tavern Revolution 250: The British Occupation of Philadelphia

As part of Studio 2’s ongoing series marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, join us at The Temperance House in Newtown, PA for an evening of history, conversation, and great local brews.

Studio 2 co-hosts Avi Wolfman-Arent and Cherri Gregg welcome historian and author Aaron Sullivan for a lively discussion about a lesser-told story of the American Revolution—those who didn’t want it.

Sullivan, a Philadelphia-based historian and professor at Rider University, is the author of The Disaffected, an award-winning exploration of the British occupation of Philadelphia that centers the experiences of colonists who were exhausted by war, loyal to the Crown, or simply hoping to stay out of the conflict altogether. The book received the ARRTOP Book of the Year Award from the American Revolution Round Table of Philadelphia for the best book on the American Revolution era published in 2019.

It’s often said that during the Revolutionary period, one-third of colonists supported independence, one-third remained loyal to the King, and one-third wanted no part of the fight. What did life look like for those caught in the middle?

Enjoy a drink on us, pull up a chair, and join the conversation as Avi and Cherri dig into the complicated realities of American revolution with Aaron Sullivan.
