Bridging Blocks | Health Care Access
In November of 2025, Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer said while the state has some of the best health care in the world, “insurance is still too expensive … primary care appointments are still too limited, and emergency room wait times are too long.” While this issue strikes communities all over the nation, Delaware is working hard to strengthen its health care system through a federal program outlining 15 projects to expand access and quality. "Health care should not depend on your ZIP code," Meyer said.
By 2040, people 60 and older will make up almost 34% of Delaware’s population, according to the 2024 Delaware State Plan on Aging. Simultaneously the population of seniors 85 and older is projected to increase by more than 170%. The pressure and strain on hospitals will be significant.
Do you agree with the governor's statement? What can be done to ensure that Delawareans are getting the care they need?
