Justice Thurgood Marshall
WHYY is proud to host an inspiring evening celebrating the life and legacy of one of America’s greatest legal minds - Justice Thurgood Marshall, a graduate of Lincoln and Howard Universities. The event will feature a screening selection from Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect followed by a panel discussion on his legacy and its impact on the law, the courts and education.
Executive produced by Emmy Award-winner and Oscar nominee Stanley Nelson and Travis Mitchell, Senior Vice President of MPT, the film offers exclusive insights into the landmark Supreme Court victories—including Brown v. Board of Education—and his historic appointment as the first African American U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

Attorney Samantha Fitzpatrick is the Director of Resident Risk for Watermark Retirement Communities and the President of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc.

Kai Scott
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Judge Kai Scott earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University and a juris doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law. Since 2022, she has served as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
