WHYY News’ Black Men in Media Summit
WHYY News hosts the 3rd annual “Black Men in Media” conference spotlighting talented Black men working in media and featuring discussions on changing narratives.
On behalf of WHYY News, Bridging Blocks and the News & Information Community Exchange (N.I.C.E.) Program, you are invited to participate in a special gathering that showcases professional skills training on the transformative power of storytelling in media on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at WHYY Studios, 150 North 6th Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19106.
The “Black Men in Media” program serves Greater Philadelphia community members by bringing new tools to the forefront for how everyday people, newsrooms and storytellers may create and produce rich narratives and encourage the highlighting of meaningful community stories. In addition, skills-based sessions will cover how to build a media career or develop professional skills that will support growth in every career such as how to create a winning resume.
This convening amplifies themes that are prevalent in society today such as the impact of social media on mental health, telling your own story, the value of mentorship and how storytellers may work to dismantle harmful stereotypes. The sessions are developed to be skills-based and informative and thus students are encouraged to participate. All generations are welcome to attend.
Attendees will hear from experts in a range of industries as well as the media field areas of music, art, photography/videography, journalism, television, radio, print media. They will leave with practical tips on developing their own voice and image, building their career footprint and sharing their own unique stories with the world.
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Networking is encouraged.
