Bridging Blocks | Transforming Public Transportation in the City

SEPTA serves more than 705,000 riders daily in the Philadelphia region. The regional transportation authority wants to modernize its fleet but struggles with reduced ridership. Despite receiving record-level funding in recent years, SEPTA lags behind its peers in annual capital investments. Its riders regularly have concerns about violent crimes and drug use onboard and at stations and stops.

What are the challenges with public transportation in Philadelphia and how has it changed over the years? How does our region ensure safe, equitable and accessible public transportation for all, while keeping fares affordable and maintaining existing services?
