Small Biz, Big Impact:

The State of Small Businesses in Philadelphia

Small businesses are the backbone of Philadelphia's vibrant neighborhoods. They drive the local economy and foster community spirit. But, the last few years have been challenging for some small businesses. About 63% of small business owners across Philadelphia did not experience revenue growth in 2022 and 2023, according to a survey by the Federal Reserve of Philadelphia. Resources are scarce and the competition they face is daunting. But, despite the challenges, small business owners continue to innovate and provide unique products and services.

Join WHYY and the Free Library of Philadelphia for a series of conversations exploring the role of small businesses in our city. We will delve into the challenges and opportunities these businesses encounter and discuss how we can collectively support their growth and sustainability. Together, we'll explore strategies for fostering a thriving small business ecosystem that benefits all Philadelphians.
