Pennsylvania lawmakers approved more than a $1 billion hike in state funding for K-12 public schools. This means that Philadelphia schools will now receive $232 million more. But, will the additional funds be enough for a district that adopted a $4.5 billion budget for 2025? Will it get the district closer to filling the adequacy gap? Will these dollars have a meaningful effect on poor kids, school climate, teacher’s pay and building conditions?
WHYY and the Free Library of Philadelphia invite you to participate in a ‘Bridging Blocks’ community conversation about rethinking equity in school funding. Which students benefit from the current flow of funding? What would it take for Philly students to have the same quality of public education as their peers in some of the neighboring affluent suburbs? What would happen if equitable changes are enacted?
