Women’s Reproductive Rights -- Who Gets to Choose?
For more than a century, the battle over women's reproductive rights has been contentious. Recently, the Alabama Supreme Court ignited controversy by deciding that embryos created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) are children. State lawmakers then passed a law to protect health workers at IVF clinics from legal liability.
Proponents of expansive reproductive healthcare argue that when women, their families and communities have unfettered access, society at large thrives. Opposition remains strong from numerous factions, including the right-to-life advocates and those who champion that the jurisdiction over these sensitive issues should rest with individual states.
