Camden’s Burning Issue: WHYY News and The Margin Bring the Community Together
Join WHYY News and The Margin for a community conversation about their recent investigation into the fires at EMR and their impact on Camden’s Waterfront South neighborhood. Since 2020, there have been 14 major fires at the scrap metal facilities — some driving neighbors to evacuate their homes and experience acute and lingering health issues. One recent fire prompted city officials to temporarily shut down the company’s shredder facility, but a lawsuit and a judge’s ordered allowed EMR to resume operations. Journalists Sophia Schmidt, Katrina Janco and Kimberly Paynter will share their latest reporting on the fires and safety concerns at the scrap metal facilities in Camden and its impact on the community.

This event is free to attend, and optional donations help WHYY to continue to offer meaningful community programs.
